In July 2026, in collaboration with my fellow coder Mike from Artisan Retro Games, I released my new game for the Atari 2600 in both digital and physical (cartridge) formats. Yes, that legendary 1977 console that’s still going strong today. The game is a lot of fun and has beautiful graphics inspired by the 80s games that brought so much joy to so many of us. Here are the technical details, and you can buy it on the Artisan Retro Games website!

Yes, once again, the Earth seems to be the universe’s favorite place to invade.
This time, they are here for our gold. Not for its beauty or for its value, but because their Time-Space Distortion Units require it.
Without gold, they can’t travel through interstellar space.
For every invasion, one hero will step forward to save the day, but Umi is not your regular hero.
Umi is a science professor and when he is not teaching, he loves tinkering with alien tech.
Most people found his obsession a little bit odd, but today, everyone is about to think differently.
You see, Umi has the only equipment that can stop these gold robbing aliens.
He has a High–Power Electro-Harmonic Multi-Wavelength Alien Encapsulator. That’s a mouthful; Umi just calls it “the Net.”
And he also came prepared with a few extras in his backpack:
Mega Vitamin Bars for strength, a Freeze spray when things get too chaotic and extra Omni-Spectrum Power-Packs that temporarily enhance the Net.
Thankfully, the world has Umi to save the world’s gold!

The full game is available in Cartridge or as a ROM download at:
Umi vs. The Bullion Bandits From Outer Space!
Umi vs. The Bullion Bandits From Outer Space! was developed in collaboration with KabutoCoder and based on his original game UMI : Colors
The game was developed in PXE and enhanced with the Game Save feature that stores the Hi-Score to the cartridge. No dongle required

Congratulations on this new release for the Atari 2600. I have to admit I’ve been surprised by this machine, which I barely know, but thanks to your new game, I’ve been able to see some of its strengths.
And of course, I’ve also been surprised by how you’ve pushed the machine to its limits with such an entertaining and addictive game.
Thank you so much for continuing to share your knowledge and your time with us all.
Thank you for playing my productions. The Atari 2600 is a fast-paced gaming system with simple mechanics due to its limited graphical capabilities, so it’s essential to make the game engaging from the very beginning to make it enjoyable.😁👾🕹️
